F. Sabir
Associate AIA, LEED AP
Mr. Sabir is the Founder and currently serves as the Principal of FS Group. In this role he directs both in-house resources and outsourced contractors in the management of full spectrum architectural, design/build, and real estate development services. Leveraging his strong communication, presentation and organization skills, he leads business development, staff development, project design, project delivery and client relations, while insuring that senior management is directly involved in managing the details of each project or assignment.
Within the local and regional healthcare and commercial market sectors, he is responsible for the execution of strategies for new business opportunities, and personally manages the contractual and financial responsibilities for each client. He serves as the technical advisor, providing senior level input and evaluation, creative direction and a systems approach towards anticipating potential problems and providing solutions. In addition, he trains the FS Group staff in best practices that ensure a thorough understanding of client requirements and design objectives, while organizing project teams, consultant’s agreements, process driven standards and quality guidelines.
It is Mr. Sabir’s vision to lead the design teams to focus on client satisfaction and efficient, cost effective execution, that regularly achieves outstanding results and improved profitability.
A 1992 graduate of the University of Houston, College of Architecture, he won the Howard Barnstone Award for the senior thesis at graduation for a mixed-use high-rise tower proposed in midtown Houston. He began his professional career at the prestigious Skidmore Owings Merrill firm in Los Angeles and worked with Richard Keating of SOM for the next two years. He was on the design team of the 22 story Hewlett Packard Headquarters in Atlanta and the 45 story Houston Lighting & Power Headquarters (now Reliant Energy) in Houston.
In 1994 he joined RDLR (Rey de la Reza) Architects where he was part of the team involved in the design of major institutional & master planning projects. He worked on the $1 Billion Cotswold 2000 Project and led the design team for the $1 Billion Metro Transit Streets Project resulting in the complete redevelopment of Downtown & Midtown Houston. While at RDLR he also worked on aviation projects such as the new Terminal B at the Bush Intercontinental Airport. Afterwards, as part of the RDLR design group, he worked on the entire University of Houston Downtown Master Plan, designed the 6 story Academic Building with an auditorium on top of the railroad tracks and the Student Services building next to Buffalo Bayou in downtown Houston. All projects received the AIA & APA Awards.
Prior to forming FS Group, in 1999 he was the lead project designer at Gensler Architects for the $100 Million Cy-Fair College Campus project. He first helped developed the overall campus master plan on a 300 acre site in west Houston & then designed the 120,000 sf Learning Resource Center building and the 100,000 sf Allied Health & Life Sciences buildings.
Merging the strengths of FS Group with Abel Design Group, as Director of Healthcare Services, Mr. Sabir developed and managed a wide variety of projects for healthcare, institutional and commercial clients. He was responsible for executing an Evergreen Agreement with Baylor College of Medicine providing ongoing work for 3 million square feet of their facilities. A similar agreement with Texas Children’s Hospital was executed to provide ongoing service for a growing number of satellite clinics around the Greater Metropolitan Houston area. Other projects included credit union facilities for three new locations, a Montessori School that is expanding and developing a number of new locations, and design work for REITs such as Inland America, Zenith Realty and Capital Commercial Investments
As a medical facilities specialist, Mr. Sabir developed expertise in designing and building ground up medical & dental office buildings & ambulatory surgery centers. He designed clinics for every specialty from surgery, cardiology and dermatology to pediatrics, gastroenterology & urology. He also designed imaging centers with CT / PET Scan, MRI, X-Ray & Nuclear Camera Clinics, as well as EECP Clinics laboratories and pharmacies.
In the general commercial real estate sector his experience also includes award winning corporate & retail interiors for clients such as Shipcom Wireless, Prime Communications, Apex Insurance Group, Bio Silk Spa in the Houston Galleria, and many others.
Mr. Sabir’s extensive experience and comprehensive understanding of design & project delivery methods for various building types gives him a unique problem solving ability. Applied to his work with various professional organizations, his current goals & professional interests enable him to effectively contribute his depth of technical knowledge and management skills to resolve critical issues and challenges on major projects worldwide.
